Virginia Dare Wilson Glace was welcomed home by her Lord and Savior on October 6, 2023 at the age of 86. She was lovingly known as Miss Gin, Ma, and Mema. Gin was born in Abbeville, SC June 21,1937 to the late Enoch Raymond Wilson and the late Malulah Sutherland Wilson.

Gin graduated from Abbeville High School in 1955. The AHS Class of 1955 has remained especially close, enjoying monthly breakfasts and multiple class reunions. She attended Newberry College with Mary Alice Hill where Gin met Bill Glace from Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, who was the love of her life.

She was a lifetime member of Main Street United Methodist Church in Abbeville, where at least 5 generations of her family have and continue to worship the Lord. Miss Gin taught Children’s Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for over 40 years. Gin also attended her “night church” for a number of years, Abbeville Congregational Holiness Church, where she sang in the choir.

Miss Gin taught preschool in her home for over 41 years. “Miss Gin’s Playschool” was her ministry where hundreds of children learned their ABC’s and how to share. Most importantly, they had fun singing “Annie Mae” and “Jesus Loves Me,” swinging, feeding the ducks at the lake, and riding in the “Yellow Thing!” Children brought great joy to her life. Gin also retired from Glace Real Estate as the “Office Manager.”

Gin was married to the late William Robert “Bill” Glace on June 8, 1956 at her parent’s home. They were blessed with 5 children: William Robert “Bob” Glace, Jr. (Lori), Julie Glace Boggs (Steve), Anne Glace Horne (Greg), Mary Glace White (Ed), and Amy Catherine Glace (Jeff Simpson).

They have 10 grandchildren: William Robert “Bill” Glace III (Jordan), Bryan Wilson Glace (Alicia Herron), Benjamin Walter Glace (Megan), Jennifer Boggs Baker (Matt), Stephen Blake Boggs (Marissa), Elizabeth Horne Webb (Pete), Brittany Michelle Horne, Sydney Horne McClain (Luke), Hanna White West (Chris), and Edwin Luke White (Kaitlyn).

Great-grandchildren are Bexlyn Glace, William Robert “Buck” Glace IV, William, Caroline, and Matthew Baker, Peyton, Blakely, Carter, and Grayson Boggs, Palmer Anne and Rosie Webb, Asa McClain, Mary Riley and Beau West, and August White. She loved her two sister-in-laws Marjorie Wilson and Margaret Glace McNair. Miss Gin was blessed with a large, extended family that she loved dearly.

She had many special friends including Frank and Wilma Phillips, Elaine Nixon, Judy Phillips, Marilyn Reid, Shane Davis, and Mike Allen.

She was predeceased in death by her parents, husband, and siblings: Ray Wilson (Mary Jane), Nona Hawthorne (Theodore), Buddy Wilson, Walter Wilson, and Joe Wilson (Mary Binet). Also, Robert “Skinny” Dixon, who was like a son.
