Virginia Alexander McCarley, 92, resident of Hwy. 71 wife of the late James Allen McCarley passed away Wednesday Sept. 20, 2023, at The Hospice House and Palliative Care in Greenwood, SC. with her loving family by her side.

She was born April 14, 1931, in Lowndesville, SC a daughter to the late George Pierce Alexander and Janie Virginia Waters Alexander.

Virginia retired from Bigelow-Sanford Rocky River Plant as a spinner with over 36 years of service. After she retired, she took care of her daughter Martha McCarley Moore until her death in May 1994 of cancer. Virginia was a faithful member of Bible Baptist Church for over 50 years.

Left to cherish her memories include her daughters; Jene (Carl) Davis of Hartwell, Georgia and Susan Harris of Greenwood, SC; son-in-law Danny Moore of Abbeville, SC; four sisters Sara Grimes and Caroline Cobb of Abbeville, SC, Juanita Mayfield of Greenwood, SC and Nancy Hiers of Walterboro, SC; a brother John Robert Alexander (Roxie) of Abbeville, SC; four grandchildren Carla (Kevin) Fallin of Gainesville, Georgia , Jena Grace Davis of Hendersonville, NC, Shannon Moore (Melissa) of Powdersville, SC and Nick Moore (Nicole) of Abbeville, SC; ten great-grandchildren Catherine (Scott) Cook, Gracie, Carson, and Nathaniel Fallin, McCarley, Fowler, and Emerson Moore, Martha Moore, Conner and Emily White.

Mrs. McCarley was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years James A. (Jim) McCarley, a daughter Martha Moore, brothers Thomas Herbert, Hack, Bill Alexander and a sister Mary Jane Alexander Rosser.

Funeral Services will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 PM in Bible Baptist Church with the Rev. Johnny Waller officiating. The burial will follow in Melrose Cemetery. The family if at 263 Hwy. 71 Abbeville, SC.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Saturday afternoon at the church prior to services.
