Violet Brannen Harris, 82, of 105 Heathwood Drive died Tuesday, July 8, 2003, at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Chester, she was a retired nurse having graduated from the Lander College of Nursing. She worked as a nurse for Dr. A.G Oliver for over 30 years. She was a charter member of the Abbeville Cotillion and was also past president. She was also associated with the Abbeville Opera House for many years.
She was also very active and associated with Lottie Jeans Dance Recitals. She was also very active with the Abbeville High School Grenadier Band. She was a former past president of the Grenadier Band. She was a member of Main St. United Baptist Church, where she once served as the church pianist.
Surviving are daughter, Patricia Detreville of Greenwood; sisters, Emily Marie Freeman of Raleigh, N.C. and Nancy Brannen Kelley of Columbia; brother, James Wylie Brannen of Geneva, Ala.; two grandsons; and five great-grandchildren.
She was the widow of John Andrew Harris Jr. and the daughter of the late Lindsay and Foy Hazelwood Brannen. She was preceded in death by a brother, Lindsey Brannen; and two sisters, Mildred Croxton and Margrite Brice.
Services are at 2 p.m. Friday at Main St. United Methodist Church by the Revs. Bob Clemons and Jerry Pickens; burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. The body is at The Chander-Jackson Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
The family will be at the home of her daughter, Patricia Detreville, 105 Heathwood Drive, Greenwood.
