Thomas "Alex" Alexander Dubose, Jr.

Thomas Alexander "Alex" DuBose, Jr.,79, resident of 106 Pineview St. widower of Phyllis Greene DuBose passed away Tuesday Aug. 29, 2017 at his home with his loving family by his side.

Born in Sumter, SC March 3, 1938 he was a son of the late Thomas Alexander DuBose, Sr. and Vermelle Montgomery DuBose.

Alex was a former employee with Flexible Tubing and the City of Abbeville before retiring as a Rural Mail Carrier with the US Postal Service with over 30 years of service. Alex was quite an athlete during his day as a football and baseball player. He was a star player for the Sumter American Legion team and also played football and baseball for Presbyterian College.

He was also very active in the Boy Scouts of America having earned his Eagle Scout Merit Badge. He also received the distinguished Arrow of Light Merit Badge. Alex was an avid Abbeville Panther fan. He was an outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing and just piddling.

He had a very caring devotion to the young people of Abbeville having served as a charter member of the Abbeville Recreation Program Board of Directors. He coached the kids of Abbeville for over 30 years. Alex had a deep love for his family having supported them in their athletic as well as civic activities.

Survivors include four daughters Mary Greene Thomasson (Mike) of Abbeville, SC, Mellie Driver (Carey) of Abbeville, SC, Libby Lippincott (Bryan) Marietta, Georgia and Martha Jane Badillo of Abbeville, SC; one son Tad DuBose of Abbeville, SC; one brother Ladson DuBose (Virginia) of Sumter, SC; ten grandchildren Mary Beth Boswell (Scotty), Taylor Driver, Allie Thomasson, Zach Lippincott, Ben Thomasson, Dubie DuBose, Emily Lippincott, William Badillo and GraceAnn DuBose and Cayden Bodillo; Special caregiver Sheron Fields.
He was preceded in death by a grandson Nick Lippincott.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday Aug. 31, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Grace United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jason Wilson officiating. The burial will follow in Melrose Cemetery. The family is at the home 106 Pineview St. Abbeville, SC.

The family will receive friends on Thursday afternoon from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at Grace United Methodist Church prior to services.
