Thomas "Tom" Robert Byrd, 90, of 503 East Greenwood St. died Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at his home.
Born in Gainesville, Ga., he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a retired railroad conductor with CSX Railroad. He was a Mason, a member of Clinton Lodge 3 AFM, a Shriner and a member of the Hejaz Shrine Temple in Greenville. He was also a member of The First Baptist Church of Abbeville.
Surviving are widow, Bertha "Nonnie" Byrd of the home; sister, Eloise Doster of Port Orange, Fla.; and a brother, Benjamin F. Byrd Sr. of Belleair, Fla.
He was the son of the late Jefferson Terrell Sr. and Florena Stewart Byrd.
Services are at 2 p.m. Friday at The Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home; entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Abbeville. The body is the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday before services.
The family is the residence.
