Samuel "Sam" Wiley Sherard Jr., 78, of 103 Mount Carmel Road died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.
Born in Abbeville County, he was a U.S. Air Force veteran, was a retired conductor with the CSX Railroad and was also a member of the Lebanon Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are widow, Frances Allen Sherard of the home, and a brother, the Rev. Lewis R. Sherard of Greenwood.
He was the son of the late Samuel Wiley Sr. and Sallie Sue Ramey Sherard. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Sue S. Mundy and Sarah Cason Sherard.
Services are at 3 p.m. Saturday at The Congregational Holiness Church by the Rev. Tye Sorrow; burial will be in Sharon United Methodist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at The Congregational Holiness Church prior to the services. The family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fletcher Sorrow, 22 Colony East, Abbeville.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Sharon United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o of Mrs. Joyce Cann, 591 McDill Road, Abbeville, S.C. 29620, or to the charity of one's choice.
Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
