R. Ted McMeekin, 61, of 237 3rd Ave., Lake Secession, Iva, formerly of 506 Sunset Drive, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at his home.
Born in Newberry County, he was a graduate of North Greenville Junior College and Furman University. He was a member of Olde Abbeville Camp #39, Sons of Confederate Veterans of which he was a past commander and charter member. He was owner/operator of McMeekin Contracting and was active with the Abbeville Jaycees and Lions Club. He was also a mason and member of the Clinton Lodge #3AFM and was a Shriner.
He was a member of the Abbeville First Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and RA leader. He was card room supervisor with J.P. Stevens Company in Calhoun Falls for 23 years.
Surviving are widow, Frances Stancil McMeekin of the home; daughter, Ginger M. Williamson of Fayetteville, Ga.; sons, Dr. Stan Becker McMeekin of Taylors, and Dave McMeekin of Greer; and seven grandchildren.
He was the son of the late J.D. and Thelma Bishop McMeekin.
Services are at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Abbeville First Baptist Church by the Revs. Riney Koschell and Jerry Dalton; interment will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens with Masonic Rites. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the church social hall, prior to the services.
