Robert "Junior" Luther Ashley

Robert Luther Ashley, Jr., 91, resident of 55 Bowen Ford Rd. husband of Doris Murdock Ashley passed away Wednesday July 6, 2016 at Anderson Area Medical Center.

Born in Abbeville County SC he was a son of the late Robert Luther Ashley and Eunice Smith Ashley.

Junior was a 1953 graduate of Clemson University with a BS Degree in Agricultural Agronomy. He retired after 40 years of service from USS Agri-Chemicals. Junior proudly served his country during World War II with the US Navy. He was also known as a diehard Clemson fan.

He was a loyal and faithful member of Mount Bethel Baptist Church where he was a member of the Kay McCurry Sunday School Class. He and his wife Doris where members of the Happy Agers Senior Citizens Group of the church. He was active in community service being a member of the North Augusta Lions Club. He also enjoyed playing golf with his friends. On June 26, 2016 he and Doris along with family celebrated 68 years of marriage.

The Ashley family would like to extend a big THANK YOU to the Doctors, nurses and staff at Iva Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center for the loving care their father received. Also thanks to his special friend Ron Brock and his caregiver Sonja Scott.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 68 years of the home; a daughter Anita White (Trip) of Weaverville, NC; three grandsons Iler, Josh and Ben White; and two great-grandsons Jack and Evan White.

A daughter Angie Ashley, a sister Elizabeth Crawford and three brothers Robert Jennings, Buck and Smith Ashley preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday July 9, 2016 at 3:00 PM at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church. The burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday July 8, 2016 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at The Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home. The family is at the home 55 Bowen Ford Rd.
