“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 28:11

Mary Wilson Whitten, 81, of Abbeville, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 2nd after a long and fulfilling life.

Born on February 27, 1943 to Charles and Helen Wilson, she was a graduate of Abbeville High School and Piedmont Technical College School of Nursing. After retiring, Mary spent her time doing what she loved most: traveling; spending time with her grandkids, great-grandchildren, great nieces and nephews; and beating anyone who would play her in Nine Endings (her favorite card game).

Mary enjoyed attending Abbeville International Pentecostal Holiness Church every Sunday.

She is survived by her husband, David Whitten; her children: Deanna Bell and Caffey Thomas; her grandchildren: Justin (Samantha) Cozart, Charles (Erica) Pinson, Buster (Meghan) Bishop and Mary Pinson; 6 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She’s also survived by her siblings Betty (James) Hozey, Charles “Bud” (Vicki) Wilson, Bryan “CB” Wilson, and Jimmy “Tadpole” Burdette. Mary was predeceased by her parents Charles and Helen, and her sister Melinda Burdette.

Pallbearers will be Austin Wilson, Trey Deason, Tyler Deason, Chris Deason, Billy Ferguson and John Rausch.

A special thank you to the Agape Hospice nurses and care givers. We would also like to thank the care givers of Ansley Glenn.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday January 5th at 3:00 PM from the Chandler Chapel of the Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home with Pastor Russ Tolison officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until the hour of service at the funeral home. A private family burial will be held at a later date.

The family will be at the home of her daughter Caffey Thomas at 2682 Mt. Carmel Road in Abbeville.
