Martha Olivia Wilson Leslie

Martha Wilson Leslie, 89, passed away July 7, 2009 at Hospice of the Foothills in Seneca, SC.

She was a daughter of the late William Joseph and Marie Florence Scott Wilson, but due to the early death of her mother, Mrs. Leslie was cared for by her grandmother Mrs. Mattie Bosdell.

Mrs. Leslie was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, James Lewis Leslie, her sister, Ruth Evelyn Wilson and her brothers Ralph Edward Wilson, Harold Joseph Wilson and half brother James William Wilson.

Survivors include her children Jim Leslie, Jr., Ann Pursley (Franklin) and Steve Leslie (Elle). Her beloved grandchildren include Jennifer Leslie, Scott Leslie (Kim) Alison Hanna (Shawn) Amanda Harris (Daniel), Todd Leslie, Lynn Goss (Gary), Leigh Ann Zikus (Igor) and great grandchildren Grayson and Caroline Goss.

Mrs. Leslie was born Oct. 1, 1919 in Abbeville County. She was a member of Abbeville
Presbyterian Church and through the years participated in Church Circles, Book and Garden Clubs, the H.D. Club and served as leader in Scout and 4-H Clubs. She worked for a number of years at Rosenburg's Clothing Store.

Mrs. Leslie was loved and admired for her grace and dignity and for her unfailing hospitality as she welcomed family gatherings at the Leslie family home. Many fond memories of bountiful meals at her kitchen table will be cherished by her children and their children. Mrs. Leslie was always guided by her faith and good common sense. Her wisdom, character and love of family will be an everlasting inspiration.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday July 11, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Abbeville Presbyterian Church with the Rev.'s Carol Strickland and Jimmy Williams officiating. The burial will follow in Long Cane Cemetery. The family is at the home Hwy. 28 North Abbeville, SC.

Mrs. Leslie is at The Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:30 PM Friday evening.
