Julius Leroy McCurry Sr., 92, resident of 194 Airport Rd. husband of Opal McCurry passed away peacefully Sunday Oct. 23, 2016 at Richard Campbell Veterans Home in Anderson, SC.
Born Dec. 8, 1923 in Abbeville, SC he was a son of the late Paul Everett McCurry and Rosa Bowick McCurry.
Julius proudly served his country during World War II as a member of the United States Navy. He received the Purple Heart and Bronze Starr for his service in the South Pacific. He was a retired maintenance inspector with J.P. Stevens Mills. He was a member of Abbeville Pentecostal Holiness Church. He will be remembered as a loving husband and father who will be lovingly remembered by his family.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 66 years Opal Boles McCurry of the home; one son Julius Leroy (Bubba) McCurry, Jr. (Valerie) of Abbeville, SC; three special nieces Ann Richardson, Marsha Erwin (Charles) and Lisa Ruth (Charles); five special nephews Joel McCurry (Caroline), Wallace Perry, Bill McCurry (June), Johnny Morrah (Annette), Charlie Ruth and his sister-in-law, Barbara McCurry.
He was the last member of his immediate family.
He was preceded in death by a son Kenneth McCurry; four sisters Ella Perry, Betty Morrah, Vera Wallace and Alice Faye McCurry; four brothers Everett, Bill, Albert and Marshall McCurry. his step-mother Cora Horton McCurry.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday Oct. 25, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the Chandler Chapel at Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home with the Revs. Jerry Catoe, Ray Massey and Marion Argo officiating. The burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens with Military Honors.
The family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home prior to services. The family is at the home 194 Airport Rd. Abbeville, SC.
