Joseph Miller Brubaker, US Army Ret., 98, resident of 48 Cypress Church Rd. widower of Beatrice 'Bea' Blanchett Brubaker passed away Thursday Feb. 19, 2009 at AnMed Hospital in Anderson, SC.
Born in Bakersville, PA, he was a son of the late Charles and Augusta Miller Brubaker.
Capt. Joe was a retired U.S. States Army veteran having served during the entire 2nd World War. He served at Omaha Beach on D-Day with the 2nd wave. He retired with the rank of Captain in 1952 after 23 years of service. He also served as the Provost Marshall at the Army War College in Carlisle Barracks, PA. He also served as the former Chaplin of the Abbeville Gideon Camp. He was a very active member of Grace United Methodist Church. He served on the Administrative Council, was a member of the PPRC Committee, he was also a lay minister in the church, served as a Sunday School teacher and was a member of the Methodist Men's Club.
He is survived by 2 sons, Richard M. Brubaker, Ret. USAF of Ray City, Georgia and Joseph M. Brubaker II U.S. Army Corp of Engineers stationed in Bagdad-Gulf Region Central; 1 sister, Imogene McCann of Michigan; caregiver Laci Anderson of Abbeville, SC; 4 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter Freda Augustus Hudson and a brother John Brubaker.
A Celebration of Captain Joe's life will be conducted Monday Feb. 23, 2009 at 2:00 PM in the Chandler Chapel at Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens with full military rites.
The family will receive friends Monday afternoon from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home prior to services.
