James Noah "Pete" Vinson, 96, resident of 71 Vinson Rd. husband of Martha Timms Vinson went to be with his Lord Wednesday April 5, 2017 after passing at his home with his loving family by his side.
He was born Jan. 5, 1921 in Greenville, SC a son of the late George Washington Vinson and Essie Bryant Vinson.
Pete was a United States Army veteran having served with the 473rd Infantry during tours of North Africa and Italy. He was a retired textile employee having worked for Bloomsburg Mills. He was a faithful member and Sunday School teacher at Faith Harvest Fellowship Church. He also was a lay preacher of the gospel. Pete had a deep religious faith and lived a Godly life for over 65 years. He will be remembered for his kind & loving demeanor and was a friend to all that knew him.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 70 years Martha Timms Vinson of the home; a son Marvin Vinson (Dorothy) of Abbeville, SC; four daughters Brenda Holden of Anderson, SC, Jean McMurtury (Fred) of Abbeville, SC, Opal Rousey (Roger) of Iva, SC and Janet Hannah (Haynie) of Iva, SC; three brothers George Vinson of Piedmont, SC, Jim Vinson of Abbeville, SC and Larry Clark of Greenwood, SC; one sister Ruby McNeil of Greenville, SC; twelve grandchildren Stephen Vinson, Debra Spencer, Tracie Robinson, Tamie Bolt, Tylen McCullough, David Jones, Karen LeGrand, Lisa Smith, Amy Lewis, Jaime Rousey, Jared Simpson and Justin Simpson; seventeen great-grandchildren Caleb Vinson, Branigan Bolt, Maggee Bolt, Caleb Robinson, Dylan McCullough, Garrett McCullough, Savannah Smith, Breanna Lewis, Courtney Lewis, Leslie Lewis, Austin Jones, Alyssa Jones, Branton Simpson, Chelsea Dowd, Kaley Simpson, Alleigh Simpson and Wryn Simpson; one great-great-grandchild Jase Dowd.
He was preceded in death by a grandson Mark Vinson and a great granddaughter Mary Beth Crosby; two brothers Roy and Floyd Vinson and three sisters Lennie Horne, Jenny Sparks and Irene Fowler.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday April 8, 2017 at 3:00 PM in Faith Harvest Fellowship Church in Calhoun Falls with the Revs. Michael Ford and Jeff Sparkman officiating. The burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens with Military Honors. The family is at the home 71 Vinson Drive Abbeville, SC.
The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon from 1:00 until 3:00 PM at the church prior to services.
Flowers will be accepted and memorials in memory of Pete may be made to Faith Harvest Fellowship Church 702 Darlington St. Calhoun Falls, SC 29628 of to Hospice Care of South Carolina 326 Montague Ave. Greenwood, SC 29646.
