James Royce Thompson, Jr.

James Royce Thompson, Jr., 80, of 3273 Hwy. 20 husband of Debbie C. Thompson passed away Monday Oct. 2, 2023 at Richard Campbell VA Home in Anderson with his loving family by his side.

Known to many as “ Jimmy”, he was born Nov. 2, 1942 in Abbeville, SC, he was the son of the late James Royce Thompson, Sr. and Inez Hodges Thompson.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Janice Hawthorne.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Debbie Crawford Thompson, of the home, a son Russ (Carleen) Thompson of Due West, SC, two grandchildren; Chandler (Anna) Thompson of Greenwood, SC, Reagan Thompson, and a great-granddaughter, Jada Rae Thompson. Jimmy is also survived by a brother, Timothy Thompson, a foster sister Doris Thompson, and an Aunt Rosemary Copeland, the latter two of Noble Drive, Abbeville. 

Jimmy was a 1960 graduate of Abbeville High School and served honorably in the U.S. Army. He was a talented machinist and honed his craft in this field for 35 years. He enjoyed watching and listening to his beloved Gamecocks, playing country music on his guitar, spending time with his family, playing golf, anything related to cars, and taking care of his special furbaby, Marcus. His warm smile, his sense of humor, and the memories he leaves behind will be cherished by a loving group of family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday Oct. 8, 2023, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel at Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Ashley officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home prior to services. The family is at the home of Russ Thompson of 25 College St., Due West, SC.
