Jack Andrew McCurry, Sr.

Jack Andrew McCurry, Sr., 99, widower of the late Sara “Reny” Woolbright McCurry, resident of South Main Street, entered into rest Saturday November 2, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Born on May 9, 1925, in Abbeville to the late Julius Andrew and Lucy Jane Powell McCurry. After high school he joined the United States Navy and served during WWII. He worked in textiles for many years then went to the United States Postal Service as a city carrier until he retired. 

A lifetime member of Southside Baptist Church, he served as Sunday school teacher, deacon, training union director, youth leader, and was a lifelong choir member. 

Surviving are his children, Jack Andrew McCurry Jr., Sheryl McCurry Brown and husband John, Timothy “Tim” McCurry all of Abbeville; special nieces Brenda Ludlow and Cathy Brown; 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 14 great great-grandchild, and 1 great great great grandchild. He was predeceased by a daughter, Karen Elaine McCurry, his brother, Aaron McCurry, his sisters, Callie Mae McCurry, Ruth McCurry Kimsey and Marie McCurry Patterson, as well as his daughter in law, Patricia Davis McCurry. 

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday November 6th at 3:00 pm from Southside Baptist Church with Reverend Tim Dorsey and Reverend Joel Bradberry officiating. Burial will follow at Forrest Lawn Memory Gardens. 

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 pm at Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home. 

Pallbearers will be Jason Able, Justin McCurry, Ward Andrew McCurry, Cade McCurry, Connor Miller, and TJ McCarty.
