Jack Tollison Deason, 88, resident of 401 Whip-O-Will Rd. husband of Irene Wright Deason passed away Monday Oct. 27, 2014 at his home with his loving family by his side.
Born in McCormick, SC he was a son of the late Franklin Pierce Deason and Gertrude Tollison Deason.
Jack was a 1951 graduate of Clemson University with a degree in Textile Manufacturing. Upon his graduation he went to work for Milliken Textiles Abbeville Palnt. He was a retired owner and operator of Deason's Flowers with his wife Irene for over 38 years. He was a United States Navy veteran. Jack was also very active in his community having been a member of the Abbeville Jaycees, Abbeville Lion's Club where he was the recipient of the Lion of the Year award in 2014, he was former chairman of the Abbeville Christmas Parade, former chairman of the Abbeville Beautification Society, a member of the Silver Hair Legislator, and he was named to the Abbeville Chamber of Commerce's Hall of Fame in 2000.
Jack was a loyal and faithful member of Main St. United Methodist Church where he served on numerous committees within the church such as the Administrative Board, Board of Trustees, Staff/Parish Relations, Methodist Men of the church where he was President for several years, he was the Trip planner and bus driver for the Methodist Youth Fellowship and the Goodtimers of the church for over 20 years. He and his wife Irene served as Youth Directors of MYF for over years 30 years. Jack was the first recipient of The Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006 given by the Methodist Men of the church.
The family of Jack would like to send a special THANK YOU to the staff and nurses at Health Related Home Care, Hospice of the Piedmont, Patriot Hospice and caregivers Linda Burton, Patsy Boyd and Beverly Manley.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 58 years Irene Wright Deason of the home; two daughters Angela Sumner (David) of Lumberton, NC and Beth Deason of Abbeville, SC; one brother Frank P. Deason of Stanley, NC; four grandchildren Erin Kelly, Alan Kelly, Hailey Sumner and Joshua Sumner.
Two brothers Pierce Deason and Bob Deason and two sisters Lib Deason Wilkie and Betty Deason Jennings preceded him in death.
