Irene Mayson Ellis

Irene Mayson Ellis, 95, resident of 508 Sparrow Rd. Greenwood, SC formerly of 582 Hwy. 201 Abbeville, SC, widow of Charles Harold Ellis, passed away peacefully at her home Tuesday Aug. 23, 2016 with her loving family by her side.

Born in McCormick, SC Sept. 23, 1920 she was a daughter of the late Press Sullivan Mayson and Estelle McNeill Mayson.

Irene was a retired bankteller with the Old Bank of Abbeville. She was a charter founding member of New Hope Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Men's & Ladies Sunday School Class.

Survivors include her daughter Jane Block (Rodney) of Greenwood, SC; a son Glenn Mayson Ellis (Jane) of Greenwood, SC; a brother Freddie Mayson (Mildred) of Greenville, SC; a grandson Ryan E. Block (Karen) of Georgetown, Texas: sister-in-law Lib Mayson of Greenville, SC.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters Eleanor Triplett and Susan Burton. She was also preceded by three brothers Press Sullivan Mayson, Jr., Mayes Mayson and Charles Mayson.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday Aug. 26, 2016 at 1:00 PM at New Hope Presbyterian Church with the Rev. John Fastenau officiating. The burial will follow in Long Cane Cemetery.

The family is at the home of her daughter Mr. & Mrs. Rodney Block 508 Sparrow Rd. Greenwood, SC.

The family will receive friends Friday from 11:00 until 12:45 PM in the Social Hall at New Hope Presbyterian Church prior to services.
