Howard Matthew Parnell, 87, resident of 329 Rice St. husband of Sue McLane Parnell passed away peacefully Tuesday Morning March 28, 2017 at his home with his loving family by his side.
Born in Lowndesville, SC Dec. 23, 1929 he was a son of the late Reverend Gids Porter Parnell and Martha Ann "Annie" Charping Parnell.
Howard proudly served his country as a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict having served as a member of the 3rd Division, Demolition Squad. He was employed at Burlington Mills in Calhoun Falls for several years and finished his career at Rocky River until retirement.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 63 years Mildred Sue McLane Parnell of the home; one daughter Kathy Parnell Jones (Glenn) of Calhoun Falls, SC; two sons Kenneth Parnell of Calhoun Falls, SC and Kevin Parnell (Jennifer) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; one brother Franklin Parnell (Juanita) of Abbeville, SC; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday April 1, 2017 at 2:00 in the Chandler Chapel at Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike McMinn officiating. The burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens with Military Honors. The family is at the home 329 Rice St. Calhoun Falls, SC.
The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home prior to services.
In lieu of flowers memorials in memory of Howard may be made to Hospice Care of the Piedmont, 408 West Alexander Ave. Greenwood, SC 29646.
