Hilda Giles Maxwell, 82, resident of 1735 Hwy. 284 widow of Haskell "Hack" Maxwell passed away Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013 at her home with her loving family by her side.
Born in Bristol, Virginia she was a daughter of the late William Marvin Giles and Ollie Williams Giles.
Hilda was a retired employee of West Carolina Telephone with over 30 plus years of service and having been among some of the first groups hired. Among her many interests were quilting and sewing which she enjoyed dearly. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and being on the lake but one of her pure joys was serving and worshiping at Bells United Methodist Church. Hilda was very active within the church having served on numerous committees within the church. She will be fondly remembered by her loving family and her many friends.
Survivors include one son David Maxwell (Jennifer) of Abbeville, SC; one daughter Faye Roberts (Bill) of Anderson, SC; one brother Robert Allen Giles of Abbeville, SC and one sister Carol Ann Latham of Abbeville, SC; three grandchildren Austin Maxwell, Anna Maxwell and Andrea Young; two step-grandchildren Hunter Vaughn and Kelsey Harrison; three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother Billy Giles.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday Sept. 7, 2013 at 4:00 PM in Bells United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kevin Lindley officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family is at the home of her son Mr. & Mrs. David Maxwell 1735 Hwy. 284.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 4:00 PM Saturday afternoon in the social hall at Bells United Methodist Church prior to services.
