George Thomas Busby, Sr. 88, of Highway 72 West, beloved husband of Mary “Bonnie” Campbell Busby, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2020 at Abbeville Area Medical Center.
Born on July 11, 1931 in Abbeville, he was a son of the late George S. and Sylvia Bradberry Busby. George retired from Milliken, worked many years at Bloomsburg and was a Bailiff at the courthouse. He was a founding member of Sharon Volunteer Fire Department, an original member of the Abbeville County Fire Commission, volunteered for Abbeville EMS and a reserve officer to Due West Police Department. George was an avid Abbeville Panthers and Clemson Tigers football fan and was a member of Bells United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Lee Busby, Sylvia Sampson; a grandson, George Alexander Busby; and a son-in-law, Billy Willis.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are his children: George Thomas Busby, Jr. (Shirley) of Easley, Steven C. Busby (Beth) of Greenwood, Ricky Busby (Sherry) of Abbeville and Laura B. Willis of Abbeville; a sister, Melba Rabon (Billy) of Cheyenne, WY; grandchildren: Carson Dula (Jason), Matthew Busby (Amber), Anna Willis, Nicole Loughner (Ben), Aaron Busby and Stephanie Busby; and seven great grandchildren, Evie, Whit, Mason, Thomas, Pierce, Katy Lynn and Scout.
Graveside services will be held at 3 pm on Sunday at Bells United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Reverend Scott Allen officiating.
The family will receive friends following graveside in the church social hall.
