Ernest "Ernie" Ray Kitchen, Sr., 83, resident of 1901 Hwy. 71 widower of Carolyn Denny Kitchen passed away Friday March 15, 2019 at Abbeville Area Medical Center.
Ernie was a graduate of Clemson University where he received his bachelor’s degree in vocational education. He worked for a number of years as a Technical Representative with North American Rockwell after which he became a fulltime farmer. Ernie was a former Fire Commissioner with Edgewood Fire Dept. where he was active for over 30 years and was well known and well-liked by all as he never met a stranger. He had numerous hobbies especially spending time on the farm and was known as a Jack of all Trades.
Survivors include: a son Ernest Ray Kitchen, Jr. (Joy) of Norfolk, VA; a daughter Rebecca "Becky Harrison (Todd) of Dalton, Georgia; a sister Mary Jo First of Cocoa Beach, FL; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son John David Kitchen.
A Celebration of Ernie's life will be conducted Sunday March 17, 2019 at 3:00 PM at Light House Ministries 233 Carwellyn Rd. Abbeville, SC with Mr. Billy Stoll officiating.
The family will receive friends after services at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Casey Smith 13 Acorn Hill Rd. Abbeville, SC.
In lieu of flowers memorials in memory of Ernie may be made to The American Cancer Society, C/O Mrs. Conway Shirley 144 Winona Church Road, Donalds, SC 29638.
