Emmett Scott, Sr, 91, resident of 508 N. Main St. husband of Evelyn Bowie Scott died Friday Sept. 26, 2009 at Abbeville Area Medical Center.
Born in Abbeville, SC he was a son of the late George Emmett and Pearl MaHaffey Scott.
He was a retired Railroad Engineer with the CSX Railway with over 35 years of service. He was also a member of Southside Baptist Church.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 72 years Evelyn Bowie Scott of the home; 1 son Emmett "Scotty" Scott, Jr. and his wife Tina of McCormick, SC; 2 daughters Georgie Arduengo of Abbeville, SC and Dawn Strawhorn and her husband Joe of Greenwood, SC; 1 brother Perrin Scott of Abbeville, SC; 5 sisters Sookie Able, Pauline Stone, Inez Stone, Mary Cartledge and Pat Ware all of Abbeville, SC; 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; caregiver, Ina Sullivan.
He was preceded in death by a grandson Joey Scott, 2 brothers John and Bud Scott and 1 sister Ruby Mobley.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday Sept. 27, 2009 at 4:00 PM in the Chandler Chapel at Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home with the Rev.'s James Blackwell and Earl Hartley officiating. The burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. The family is at the home 508 N. Main St. Abbeville, SC.
The body is at The Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 PM Sunday afternoon prior to services.
Active pallbearers will be Troy Scott, Casey Hitt, David Strawhorn, Rusty Strawhorn, Brady Strawhorn, Matthew Crowe, Dustin Scott and Robbie Prince.
Honorary pallbearers will be T.J. Scott and Adam Scott.
