Elizabeth Hay Mitchell, of Wadmalaw Island died Friday, April 4, 2003, at Carlisle Nursing Center in Due West.
She graduated from Rock Hill High School and attended Winthrop College. She was a member of Second Presbyterian Church in Charleston, where she was also a Sunday school teacher. She started the weekday kindergarten program at Second Presbyterian Church and later formed the same at Johns Island, SC Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are sons, Lewis Mitchell of Wilmington, Del. and Marion Mitchell of Chesterfield, Mo.; daughters, Edith Brawley of Due West and Elizabeth Neil of Decatur, Ga.; sister, Inez James of Greer; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was the widow of F. Marion Mitchell Jr. and the daughter of the late Lewis H. and Edith Beckett Hay.
Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Edisto Presbyterian Church, on Edisto Island, by the Rev. Lewis S. Hay; burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body is at The Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home, Abbeville.
The family suggests memorials be made to Second Presbyterian Church at Meeting and Charlotte Streets, Charleston.
