Douglas Ray Howard, 74, of 111 Suffolk Road went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 20, 2013 at Park Place Assisted Living. He was the husband of Judy Coleman Howard.
Mr. Howard was born at Fort McClellan, AL and was the son of the late Phil Houston and Anne Meads Howard. He was a retired band director and school administrator, a long time music director at Tabernacle Baptist Church, a lifelong member of the Music Educators National Conference, a veteran of the US Marine Corps, and a member of Maranatha Christian Fellowship.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters: Laura Travis of Rockmart, GA and Kathy Hill of St. Matthews, SC; sons: David Howard of Boiling Springs, Joey Howard of Central Asia, Stephen Howard of Richmond, VA and Jonathan Howard of Hawaii; ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, January 25, 2013 at Eggers Funeral Home of Boiling Springs.
A Celebration of life service will be conducted at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Union, SC on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Rev. Don Horton. Interment will follow at Long Cane Cemetery in Abbeville, SC at 3:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church, 915 S. Pinckney Street, Union, SC 29379 or Maranatha Christian Fellowship, P O Box 8057, Gaffney, SC 29340 for international missions.
