Doris Murdock Ashley, 86, resident of 55 Bowen Ford Rd. went to be with her Lord Friday Sept. 16, 2016. She passed away at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson, SC.
She was born Feb. 23, 1930 in Anderson, SC a daughter of the late Troy Murdock and Melzie Bowman Murdock. She was the widow of Robert Luther Ashley, Jr.
Doris was a 1946 graduate of Honea Path High School and she attended USC Aiken for 2 years. She was a gifted homemaker making you feel so very special in her home. She was also a teacher at Tri-Development Center in Aiken, SC. She and her late husband R.L. devoted most of their lives caring for their special needs daughter, Angie.
She was a loyal and faithful member of Mount Bethel Baptist Church where she was a member of the Homemakers Sunday School Class. She and R.L. were members of the Happy Agers Senior Citizen Group of the church. Doris and R.L. celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary with family and friends on June 26, 2016. Doris always enjoyed cooking, visiting and doing things for other people.
The Ashley family would like to extend a big THANK YOU to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Iva Rehabilitation Center for the continuous loving care their mother received. Thanks to their special friends Ron Brock, Rebecca McCoy and caregiver Sonja Scott. Also a THANK YOU to the Rainey Hospice House for their excellent care.
Survivors include her daughter Anita White (Trip) of Weaverville, NC; three grandsons Iler White (Amy) of Weaverville, NC, Josh White (Whitney) of Singapore and Ben White of Ashville, NC; two great grandsons Jack and Evan White of Singapore; her sister Lucille Mattison (Ronnie) of Anderson, SC. She was preceded in death by her daughter Angie Ashley and a sister Anna Margaret (Murdock) Brock.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday Sept. 19, 2016 at 2:00 PM in Mt. Bethel Baptist Church by Mr. Ricky Rice and Brandon Hawkins. The burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday evening Sept. 18, 2016 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home.
