Donald Webster "Donnie" Townes, 75, resident of 2752 Elberton Hwy. husband of Joyce Sullivan Townes passed away Sunday Aug. 23, 2015 at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood, SC.
Born in Anderson, SC July 24, 1940 he was a son of the late Thomas Randolph Townes and Pearl Thomason Townes.
Donnie had been fighting health problems for several months and lost his battle Sunday morning and heaven gained an angel. Donnie was known as a Southern Dirt Track Legend as he could always be seen driving the #2 Chevy across the finish line. He attended Good Hope Baptist Church and will be remembered as being a good and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and a caring friend.
Survivors include his loving wife of 30 years Joyce Sullivan Townes of the home; four sons Terrance Townes, Adam Doyle, Charles Ashley and Bobby Loftis; three daughters Cheri Fletchall, Robin Jones and Darlene Latham; one sister Joyce T. Cann; seventeen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Donnie's life will be conducted Wednesday Aug. 26, 2015 at 4:00 PM in Good Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Daniel Atkins and Mr. Fred Greenway officiating. The family is at the home of his daughter Mr. & Mrs. Andy Latham 5608 Flat Rock Rd. Iva, SC.
The family will receive friends Wednesday afternoon from 3:00 until 4:00 PM at the church prior to services.
