Connie Yeargin Speer, 80, resident of 313 Wilewood Road, widow of George Mason Speer, Jr., passed away peacefully at her home on Friday December 29th, 2023.
She was born September 21, 1943, in Greenville, SC. She was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Curtie Mae Yeargin. Connie was a 1961 graduate of Berea High School and 1965 graduate of Lander College with a degree in education and emphasis on Home Economics. Connie taught several years before her children were born, then took the role as homemaker. She and Mason also took over the family business, Henry Gilliam Florist.
Connie was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Abbeville, Sherry Wilson Sunday School Class and served on various committees and ministries over the years.
Connie was a member of the Chrysanthemum Garden club and served her community in working with conservation efforts around town. She was very involved with the Faith Home in Abbeville, and the ladies there were very special to her.
Service was her heart, as she loved people more than herself. She was truly an example of Christ in service to others.
Survivors include: a daughter, Jennifer Speer Simmons (Luke) of Abbeville, SC, and a son George Mason Speer, III (Tripp) (Hannah) of Abbeville, SC; five grandsons; Christopher Simmons (Taylor), Joseph Simmons, Abe Speer, Nate Speer, and Titus Speer; two great-grandchildren; Quinn Simmons and Emmy Simmons; two sisters; Nancy Mace and Myra Gallagher and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Home Bridge Hospice, especially to Dr. Keith Scott, Kayla Beaty, and Elaine Martin, as well as several special caregivers that spent so much time caring for Connie.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at 1:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church Christian Life Center, 307 N. Main St., Abbeville, SC. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens, 3302 US 25, Hodges, SC.
The family will receive friends, Monday January 1, 2024, at First Baptist Church Christian Life Center from 5 until 7 P.M.
