Clifton Alvin Sprouse, 92, passed away Thursday Nov. 20, 2014 at the home of his sister in Virginia Beach, VA.
Born August 2, 1922 in Abbeville, SC he was the son of the late Clifton Sprouse and Idona Pressley Sprouse.
Alvin was a 1947 graduate of Clemson University and a veteran of WWII. He retired as Vice-President of Abbeville Saving and Loan in 1982.
He was an active member and officer of the Abbeville Lions for many years. Alvin was also a member of the Abbeville Rotary Club and the Abbeville Little Theater.
Alvin was a devoted member of Main St. United Methodist Church. He served as Chairman of the Administrative Board and on numerous other committees, taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, assisted with the Goodtimers and MYF and was a charter member of the Main St. Methodist Men, which awarded him with the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007.
Alvin is survived by his sister, Nancy Sprouse Stroud; four nieces and one nephew, Carol-Thomas Sharp and husband, Dan; Kathy Thomas and husband Ed; Jay Stroud and wife, Stacy; Joy Robertson and husband, Bill, and Jan Stroud; five great-nieces, one great-nephew and one great-great-niece.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Louise Sprouse Thomas, and brothers-in-law, Eber H. Thomas, Jr. and Joal C. Stroud, Sr.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday Nov. 22, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Main St. United Methodist Church with the Rev. Randy Taylor officiating. The burial will follow in Long Cane Cemetery.
The family will receive friends in the Greene Center at Main St. from 10:00 until 11:00 AM Saturday prior to services.
