Charles Edward Williams, 80, resident of 2074 Hwy. 72 West husband of Maureen Whitten Williams passed away peacefully Thursday Sept. 19, 2013 at his home.
Born Nov. 19, 1932 in Abbeville, SC he was a son of the late James Gillespie Williams and Sara Gibert Williams.
Charles was a retired supervisor with Rocky River Mills with over 30 years of service. He was a United States Air Force veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. He continued to serve his country faithfully for over 41 years through his being a member of the National Guard and the Army Reserves. He was also an active member of his community while being a faithful member of the Korean Veterans Association. He also served 3 terms on the Abbeville County School Board. Charles was a Mason and a member of the Clinton Lodge #3 AFM. He was a loyal and faithful member of Lebanon Presbyterian Church for over 40 years were he served as an Elder and was a member of numerous committees within the church. Charles was a proud and avid Clemson Tiger Football and will be remembered for his kind and caring demeanor towards his family and his many friends.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 61 years Maureen Whitten Williams of the home; a daughter Lisa W. Hagan (Robert) of Donalds, SC; three sons Jimmy Williams (Julie) of Abbeville, SC, Joey Williams (Leslie) of Anderson, SC and Steve Williams (Chipper) of Belton, SC; one sister Dot Fleming (Neuffer) of Abbeville, SC; nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister JoAnn Freeman and a brother Lowrie Williams.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday Sept. 22, 2013 at 3:00 PM in the Chandler Chapel at Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home with the Revs. David Barton and Arnold Johnson officiating. The burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens with Full Military Honors. The family is at the home.
The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 1:30 until 3:00 PM at the funeral home prior to services. The family is at the home 2074 Hwy. 72 West Abbeville, SC.
