Charles Byrd Murphy, Sr., 83, formerly of Abbeville, passed away October 28, 2017 at Magnolia Manor in Greenwood, SC.
Born May 30, 1934 in Richland Co, SC, Charles was a son of the late Watson Murphy and Florence Bouknight Murphy.
Charles, a graduate of Clemson University, served in the National Guard and was quite the entrepreneur. Most notably recognized as owner of Murphy Jewelry and Murphy Management. He was active in the Jaycees and Rotary Club where he was recognized as "Man of the Year" and was a Paul Harris Fellow. Charles was a member of First Baptist Church in Greenwood and was a Deacon as well as a Sunday School teacher. Clemson football was special to Charlie his entire life.
Charles is survived by his wife, Nancy Kelly Eubanks Murphy of Abbeville, SC; his children, Charles B. Murphy, Jr. and wife, Joyce, of Warner Robins, GA, Jane M. Stasney of Greenville, SC, Debbie M. Settin and husband, John, of Greenville, SC, Cathy M. Jordan and husband, Bailey, of Greensboro, NC and Charles B. Murphy, III and his wife, Kristi, of Abbeville, SC; and his step-children, Allen L. Murphy of Greenville, SC, Edward Eubanks of Lexington, SC, Russell Eubanks and wife, Leigh, of Lexington, SC, Kelly E. McCurry and husband, Jerry, of Pawley's Island, SC, and Karol E. Vellines and husband, Steve, of Tucker, GA; and 22 Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Jim Murphy and wife, Irene, of Greenwood, SC.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by a brother, Watson Murphy.
Celebration of Life services will be held Monday, October 30, 2017 at 2:00pm at First Baptist Church in Greenwood, SC. The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:00pm Sunday, October 29th at the residence in Abbeville as well as immediately after the services.
