Boyd Michael Davison, 80, resident of 302 Sunset Drive, beloved husband of Gayle Hinson Davison passed away Friday Nov. 28, 2008 at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood, SC.
He was born in Portland, Oregon Sept. 28, 1928, a son of the late Victor and Alice Boyd Davison.
Boyd was a world traveler and lived in the Panama Canal Zone where he learned Spanish. He was proficient in Spanish, Portuguese, and French. He graduated from Iowa State College in 1952, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Structural, Architectural and Civil Engineering. He was also a graduate of the Thunderbird School of Global Management in Glendale, AZ. His career span included three years as a Senior Registered Engineer in Rhodesia, Africa in a program of highway and bridge modernization. He was a registered professional engineer in California, Oregon and Nevada. He also worked as an engineer management consultant in Central and South America. Boyd attended Main St. United Methodist Church. He also loved tennis and was a lifelong competition player. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a brilliant man, extremely thoughtful and had a wonderful sense of humor. He was a charming and kind man with an extensive vocabulary. He was also a good listener, and a witty conversationalist. He was a member of the American Legion Post #2, the American Water Works Association, the Pacific NW Consulting Engineering Council, and the Mensa Society. He was be truly missed by all who knew him well and those that loved him dearly.
Survivors include his beloved wife Gayle Hinson Davison of the home; 3 daughters Laura Olsen and her husband Dean, Lisa Crider and her husband Chip and Anita Clark and her husband Robert all of Abbeville, SC; 2 step-sons Phillip and Mark Gustafson of Portland, Oregon; a sister Elspeth Alexander of Shoreline, Washington; 8 grandchildren and 3 great- grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter Kristen Beth Davison.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008 at 1:00 PM in the Chandler Chapel at Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home with Rev.'s Randy Taylor and Leon Thompson officiating. The burial will follow in M. J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery in Anderson, SC, with military rites.
Boyd is at the Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 PM Monday evening. The family is at the home 302 Sunset Drive in Abbeville, SC.
