Barbara Hawthorne Hines

Barbara Carolyn Hawthorne Littlefield Hines, 76, resident of 16 Haynes St. widow of Julian Ray Hines passed away Thursday Dec. 12, 2013 at her home.

Born in Chicago, IL she was a daughter of the late Claude Thomas Hawthorne and Ruth Foster Hawthorne.

Barbara was twice married first to the late James Tyree Littlefield.

Barbara received her BA Degree from The University of South Carolina. She served in a number of capacities before her retirement she was the Executive Assistant of the Abbeville County Development Board and a supervisor for the U.S. Census and retired as a Retail Sales Associate. Barbara was very active in community activities where she was a former State winner in Home Improvement with the 4-H Club, a member of the Wildflower Garden Club, member of the Delta Zeta Sorority, a 50 year member of the John Frances Gray Chapter of the Eastern Star where she was a past Worthy Matron. She was a member of Abbeville First Baptist Church and the Fidelis Sunday School Class. Barbara enjoyed the simple things in life like flower gardening, vegetable gardening, reading, studying genealogy and most importantly enjoying time with her precious grandchildren. She would most like to be remembered for doing the best she could!

Survivors include three sons Douglas Tyree Littlefield (Ann) of Anderson, SC, Steven Claude Hines (Jennifer) of Due West, SC and Philip Raymond Hines (Joanne) of Lewisville, NC; four step-sons Robert Allen Hines (Rhonda), David Thomas Hines, James Steven Hines (Sandra) and Jerry Richard Hines (Shirlene) all of Pauline, SC; one step-daughter Mary Nell Hines (Ann'dra) of Inman, SC; 9 grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her brother, James William Hawthorne; sister, Claudia Joan Hawthorne; and step-sons, William River Hines and John Michael Hines.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday Dec. 16, 2013 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel at Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home with the Rev. Daryl Hawthorne officiating. The burial will follow in Long Cane Cemetery with Eastern Star Rites. The family is at the home of her son Mr. & Mrs. Steven Hines 16 Haynes St. Due West, SC.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:30 PM Monday afternoon prior to services at the funeral home.
