Alphonse Botje

  It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved brother Alphonse Arthur Botje who left us on January 24th, 2024. He was 65 years of age. Born on August 20th, 1958, in Saginaw Michigan to Maria and Willem Botje who preceded him in death.

  Alphonse never met a stranger and greeted everyone with a warm smile and a big hug. His willingness to love everyone was what he was all about. Alphonse attended Millett Learning Center in Saginaw, Michigan until he was 25 years old. In 1989, he moved to Abbeville, SC, with his parents. He attended the Burton Center and was employed at various locations including The Belmont Inn and Wesley Commons.

  After the passing of Alphonse's parents, he lived with his sister Carmen and her family. His passions included church and work, but most of all bowling. He was a devoted Catholic and a very proud member of The Knights of Columbus. He also participated in the Special Olympics. Alphonse's love for life will be fondly remembered.

  Alphonse is survived by a brother Bryan Botje, Kona, HI; a sister, Carmen (Botje) Matzke (Danny), Clearwater, FL.; Nieces, Genelle Thompson (Aren), Jessica Adams (Scott), Christina Wade (Jon). Nephews, Brenden Botje (Beth), William Matzke (Megan) as well as several cousins residing throughout Europe.

  The family will receive friends on Saturday February 10th, 2024, at the Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home Chapel beginning at 11:00 AM with a memorial service to follow at 12:00 noon.
