Almeta Nelson Purdy, 83, resident of 241 Bell Rd. widow of James R. Purdy passed away Saturday Oct. 27, 2012 at her home.
Born in Abbeville Co. SC she was a daughter of the late William Nelson and Irene Rousey Nelson.
Almeta was a retired supervisor with The Metric Shirt Plant. She was a faithful and loyal member of Rocky River Baptist Church. Almeta was an avid fisherman and she also enjoyed cooking and making cakes. She was simply known as "The Cake Lady" by many of her friends. She was a member of the Antreville Order of the Eastern Star. Almeta will be remembered for her kind and giving heart as she cared for others a large part of her life.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandra P. Cobb of Anderson, SC; 2 sons, James R. Purdy and his wife, Gai,l of Anderson, SC and Harold Dirk Purdy and his wife, Jane, of Iva, SC; 4 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday Oct. 30, 2012 at 4:00 PM in Rocky River Baptist Church with the Rev.'s Bobby Jones and Donnie Murdock officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family is at the home 241 Bell Rd. Abbeville, SC.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 PM Monday evening at The Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home.
